Convention Activities

There will be an open quartet contest as well as an open chorus contest– no qualification required for either, and no gender restrictions for quartets or choruses. All members of competing ensembles do need to be members of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

The quartet contest first round will be late Friday afternoon into the evening (exact times depend on how many entries are received by the cutoff date). The quartet contest finals will be the top 10 quartets plus a mic-tester (11th place), and will be held Saturday evening. Evaluations and feedback for the quartets not qualifying for the finals will be Friday night; evals for the finalist will be Saturday night.

The chorus contest will be held Saturday morning, with evaluations/feedback after lunch.

Details on the quartet and chorus contest will be provided during the summer on this page as well as communicated via the RMD newsletter (subscribe here!)

Massed Sing

All convention registrants are invited to participate in a Massed Sing and perform on Saturday. The Director and the songs to be performed are TBD.

Harmony Platoon

Learn five songs in advance and be randomly assigned into quartets with other passionate barbershoppers for a competition. An extra fee applies in order to cover the cost of the music and learning tracks, which will be supplied after registration. If you previously paid to participate in Harmony Platoon in 2023 at RMHC, watch for an email with a code to register again for free. Here are the great arrangements that will be included:

  • A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet (Sam Breedon)
  • Who Told You (Lou Perry)
  • Bye Bye Love (Tom Gentry)
  • So Much In Love (David Harrington)
  • If I Had My Way (David Harrington)

Contact Bear Schacht at schacht.bear@gmail.com with any questions about Harmony Platoon.

Tag Spot

In addition to all the hallways and corners to tag in, we will have an official “Tag Spot” during the weekend.

Polecat Room

Care to sing some polecats in an official Polecat Room? We’ll have one of those during the weekend as well.
