The District Barbershopper of the Year is very prestigious award, and is given to the person that the panel of previous BOTY recipients acknowledge as having given above and beyond, to the District primarily, as well as to the Society and his Chapter.
We’ll look at his Society and Chapter contributions first and finish with his contributions to the Rocky Mountain District.
Start with the fact that he helped form the Gold Medal Moment Task Force. He has been President and IPP of PROBE (composed of Public Relations Officers and Bulletin Editors) where he serves as a certified judge of chapter and district bulletins and as the webmaster of PROBE.
In his chapter he is Editor–in–Chief of their award-winning bulletin. He serves on the chapter Music Team as Assistant Chorus Director and Section Leader. He arranges music, and is the chapter Show Chairman, and he writes the chapter’s show scripts. He has received six chapter “Sparkplug” awards and has twice been chapter Barbershopper of the Year.
In the Rocky Mountain District he has served as VP of Chorus Director Development and VP of Marketing and PR where he has stepped in when needed as District bulletin editor and District webmaster. He is a Standing Ovation evaluator and instructor, as well as an Out Standing In Front trainer. He is on the faculty and a quartet coach here at Rocky Mountain Harmony College 2016, and in 2014 he served as the Dean of this College. He has served as Master of Ceremonies at District Conventions, and he is an instructor and facilitator at the RMD Leadership Academy. He served as Executive VP of the District for two years prior to his current office of District President.
Please join me in honoring our Rocky Mountain District 2015 Barbershopper of the Year…JOHN ELVING!
