Welcome to the 2016 District Convention – October 6-8
Harmony. Education. Fellowship.
Welcome to another great weekend as we gather the Rocky Mountain District in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There is so much happening this weekend for everyone who attends—Barbershop members, spouses, friends and people from Cheyenne who want to see and hear the very best in Barbershop singing. We have so much to share with the world outside of Barbershop, and this is just another chance to do just that.
Naturally there will be much singing throughout the weekend. But, there is important business to be undertaken. We will start the weekend with the House of Delegates (HOD) meeting. This is when delegates (usually chapter presidents) gather together to make decisions that will affect all the members within the district. Two important agenda items include: 1) the 2017 District Budget. We want to make certain available funds are allocated in the best interest of all our chapters and members; 2) 2017 Leadership Team. A new board of directors will be voted on, and the new operations officers named for 2017.
Of course, one of the main things that happen in our fall convention is the contests that take place. This is the weekend that the chorus, and quartet are chosen to represent the RMD the following July in the International Convention and Contests. The quartet that will represent our district in the Midwinter Seniors Quartet Contest will also be chosen. It is always our hope that we can qualify more than one chorus and several quartets.
As always, I look forward to seeing many friends from previous years and making new friends. As we all know, there are no real strangers in our Barbershop Society, only great friends we may not have met yet. I would love to sing a tag or song with you.
Sing-cerely and Hum-bly,
John Elving, RMD President
