Gentlemen and Ladies of RMD – I am communicating with you today not as the President of the Rocky Mountain District, but simply as a chapter member in our district who would like to encourage you to consider joining with me in an initiative undertaken by our chapters to become a Youth Festival Sponsor.
This initiative was actually started by our chapter delegates attending the 2014 House of Delegates meeting, and we are more than halfway to our goal. I would like to ask the RMD membership to consider completing this goal, and with just a little help from everyone we can achieve what we started in 2014.
Although this is not something that the District Board has obligated the membership to do, they are very supportive of this effort and would ask everyone to please consider doing their part in this worthwhile endeavor.
Please note that our District and our Youth have benefited greatly from a decade of involvement in the Youth Festival, and the impact of this involvement is evident today. From 2009 through 2017, over 600 youth from RMD have participated in the Youth Chorus Festival – over 600 – kids from all around RMD map. In 2014, one fourth of the Youth Festival Choruses – 5 of 20 participating Youth Choruses – were from right here in the RMD. Many of those kids have gone on to join choruses and take on Leadership roles within chapters, both in-District and around the Society. Ask the guys in our current District Champion Quartet, The Pine… Ask any of the 3 RMD Board Members who are Youth Chorus alums… Ask anyone who sang with The 505, Mountain West Voices, the Provo High School Choir, Die Heart Acafellas, Frequency, or 52eighty… Ask anyone in any of those groups, and I am sure they will tell you the Youth Chorus Festival has made a difference in their lives and has much to do with their continued involvement in their Chapters, the District, and the Society.
Incidentally, RMD will be represented yet again at Midwinter 2018 as two choirs from Grandview High School in Aurora, CO – 100 voices in all – will be singing in the Youth Festival in Orange County, CA.
So what do we need to do to complete our initiative that we started in 2014? The goal would be to raise another $4,925.00. Let me make the RMD membership an offer that I hope you won’t refuse. If the RMD membership will raise $3,925.00 I will donate the last $1000 to meet the goal. Consider that if each of our members gave $5.00 or if our 30 active chapters were to pass the hat at their next meeting and give what they can, we should be able to achieve the goal easily. No matter how you do the math, if everyone gives just a little we can make it happen.
I am aware that many of you have already contributed to this initiative and for that I am greatly appreciative, and thank you for your generosity. If you or others that may not have been aware of this effort are able, please consider giving a little more to help us achieve our goal.
Neil Ridenour, VP Financial Development is in charge of collecting donations.
1. Chapter Donations – While this is an individual member appeal, we also encourage chapters to participate if your board agrees. Make check out to Harmony Foundation and write RMD YCFS in the memo line. Bring to our Fall Convention next month and have your HOD representative provide to Neil Ridenour at the HOD meeting.
2. Individual’s Checks – Recommend they are collected at the chapter level, made out to Harmony Foundation and write RMD YCFS in the memo line.
a. Alternatively, if written to the chapter, the chapter can add this to their one check for this campaign.
b. Or, if preferred, they may be snail mailed (soon!) directly to Neil Ridenour for presentation at the Fall Convention. But, be sure they’re made out to Harmony Foundation and write RMD YCFS in the memo line. Be sure to include a note as to chapter affiliation with the check, example: CS Pikes Peak S-002. Neil’s address is 8165 Brigantine Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80920-4405.
3. Cash – please collect at the chapter level, and follow steps in item 1 above.
4. Credit / Debit Card – Recommend the individual go to http://harmonyfoundation.org/ways-to-give/give-today/ and:
a. Select Single Gift
b. In Designation area, select Other, do not select Unrestricted.

d. Complete all other necessary entries and submit; be sure to retain your email receipt.
It is my hope that we will be able to make a presentation to the Harmony Foundation at our Fall convention in Midway UT. and celebrate our commitment to the future of BHS and the Harmony Foundation.

RMD District President
